The antique Spanish 4 reales coin evokes the circulation of currency along the major trade and maritime routes of the Spanish era. The “pirate coin” name reflects this historical and commercial imagery; it does not attribute this particular example to a specific shipwreck.

For over fifteen years, Kalinas & Tainos has been designing and assembling customizable jewelry in Saint-Barthélemy, combining Tahitian, South Sea, freshwater, and Akoya cultured pearls, rare conch pearls, gemstones, ancient coins, kangaroo leather, sterling silver 925, and gold. Each creation is designed to reveal the unique character of these materials through an elegant, timeless style deeply inspired by the art of living in Saint-Barthélemy.

Remove the necklace before showering, swimming, exercising and sleeping. Water, salt, chlorine, perspiration and repeated friction can dry out the leather and accelerate wear. Let it air-dry naturally if it becomes damp. Do not polish the ancient coin or use abrasive products: its patina is part of its history.

Before storing your necklace, gently wipe the ancient coin, the pearls, the leather, the cord and the metal with a soft, dry cloth. This removes perspiration, cosmetics and other residues that may affect the materials over time, even while the piece remains in its jewelry box. Store it separately from other jewelry to limit friction.

Is the coin genuinely antique?

This necklace features an antique coin commonly described as a “pirate coin.” Each coin is selected individually and may vary in identification, period, metal and patina.

What pearls are used in this necklace?

The necklace features two Tahitian cultured pearls measuring approximately 11 mm and 9 mm, graded BC and semi-round in shape.

Can I choose the leather color?

Yes. The leather color can be selected from the available options.

Can I choose the necklace length?

Yes. The necklace is made according to the selected length. The reference length is 50 cm.

Will every necklace look exactly the same?

No. Antique coins naturally vary in patina, shape and wear, while every cultured pearl has individual color, luster and surface characteristics.
